About This Course
September 11th, 2001, began like any other Tuesday in the United States. The skies were clear, commuters filled the streets, and thousands of people headed to work in New York City, Washington D.C., and beyond. But within hours, the world would change forever.
At 8:46 a.m., American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Just 17 minutes later, at 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower. What first seemed like a tragic accident quickly became clear: America was under attack.
Panic spread through the city as smoke poured from the towers. Firefighters, police officers, and emergency responders rushed into danger, risking—and in many cases giving—their lives to save others.
At 9:37 a.m., a third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. military. Then, at 10:03 a.m., a fourth plane—United Airlines Flight 93—crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back against the hijackers.
At 9:59 a.m., the South Tower collapsed. The North Tower followed at 10:28 a.m. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day, making 9/11 one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in history.
The attacks of 9/11 reshaped global politics, security, and the lives of millions. But amid the devastation, stories of courage, sacrifice, and unity emerged. More than two decades later, the memory of that day remains a solemn reminder of loss, resilience, and the enduring strength of humanity.
